Certificate Course Workplace-Based Learning

About this online Certificate Course

Course Coordinator Anneke van der Niet, MSc:

“More and more organizations in the health sector worldwide understand the need and relevance for workplace-based learning in hospitals, clinics, and health care facilities. Workplace-based learning is a useful way to promote the development of knowledge, skills, and competencies in a robust and cost-effective manner.

For example, rather than going to a lengthy training course, practitioners can learn what they need for work during their everyday tasks and reflect on their ongoing performance. This increasing momentum for learning at the workplace is reflected in this new course. The course offers up-to-date insights into recent trends on workplace-based learning for health professions education”.

ONLINE COURSE Also flexible starting dates upon request possible.

The course Workplace-Based Learning includes the following themes:
  • Contextual factors; need and relevance of workplace-based learning
  • Effective learning in work-place setting: training and transfer, cognitive apprenticeship
  • Formal and informal learning
  • Communities of practice and network learning
  • Mentoring, goal setting and how to give feedback
  • Workplace-based learning tools and programmatic assessment
Objectives

Some of the themes addressed in the course are: What makes workplace-based learning so powerful? Which theoretical frames can be used? Why does learning at work increase the motivation of your team members? Why is mentoring an effective way for workplace learning, and how can it best be used to scaffold learning also at your workplace? And how can the outcomes of workplace-based learning be reliably assessed”?

Clustered in a short number of well-designed online packages, the course will use a variety of instructional methods, including videos, examples, and self-assessment tools to help you get the most out of this learning experience.
At the end of this course, you are well equipped with useful resources that you can use to increase the potential of workplace-based learning to support health professions education in your hospital, clinic, or health care facility.
