Why a SHE alumni community?
The alumni community facilitates activities for and by SHE alumni. This community provides a sounding board for professionals who share the same interests. It aims to contribute to a continuation of the collaborative learning that took place during the SHE education programmes.
Who are the members?
Our alumni members all have either a Master in Health Professions Education (MHPE) degree or a PhD degree from the School of Health Professions at Maastricht University. Advantages of being part of the SHE Community network
SHE alumni constitute a worldwide bridge between the graduate school and society, making them our best ambassadors. They continue to be part of the academic community and provide a strong link to the health professions education community and societal institutes. As a SHE alumni you:
Continue to be part of the scholarly community—an important and useful network—and can rely on a bond of collegiality and friendship in which both the School of Health Professions Education and alumni actively participate
Have access to participation in special alumni activities
Receive regular updates on educational and research developments within SHE
Above all: enjoy staying in touch with former classmates, returning to Maastricht once in a while, reminiscing together and forging new friendships.
What activities do we offer?
SHE likes to keep in touch with its extended family of SHE alumni from all over the world. Over the years, SHE has established a vast community, leading to professional exchange, workplace collaborations and many lifelong (learning) friendships.
The yearly AMEE conference is an excellent occasion to meet new and old friends and to keep up-to-date on the developments within SHE and in the field of health professions education. As the popularity of our events increases, we can imagine that even more of our alumni will request and conduct workshops for one another in the near future, inform each other about lessons learned in the field, and in general catch up with each other again.
Looking back at, we can tell that the inspiration of the SHE programmes is ongoing in our lively alumni network. Through the network, various activities have found their way into our professional and personal lives.
We’re proud on our new chair, Francisco Olmos Vega, who began his chairmanship in August 2016. He is helping to make the consolidation and expansion of these activities the focus for the next five years. Future SHEILA activities will focus on:
Promoting alumni interaction via social media
Officially welcoming new alumni into the Alumni community at the MHPE graduation ceremonies
Hosting interactive workshops on ‘health professions education updates’ by and for alumni, as well as the always lively SHE social events, at medical education conferences
Fostering communication between alumni and staff about many interesting and relevant themes
Upcoming Alumni activities 2017
The 2017 AMEE conference will be in Helsinki, Finland. SHE activities for AMEE will be announced.
We are very proud and grateful that our alumni share their SHE experiences with us and form an ongoing inspiration. The Master of Health Professions Education Anniversary Booklet 2012 is an excellent example of what our graduates are capable of.
